Salary Data for Marketing Positions
Notes are from two different interesting sources of salary data for marketing positions, a marketing recruitment firm, and crowdsourced from someone on TikTok.
What are the salary trends for marketing positions?
Ruckus, a growth, and marketing-focused recruitment firm published an informative presentation on salary trends for marketers. You can check out the full presentation here.
Big takeaways for me:
Compensation isn’t dependent on location anymore
Age of company can influence salary. Their hypothesis: companies that have been around longer understand the value of paying competitively.
Unfortunately, women’s salaries are trending down
(Yes, I know we’re going into 2023. It’s slightly old data, but still useful.)
I also came across a huge crowdsourced survey (from tiktok.com/@chrristen) of ~60k people sharing salary data. I went through and pulled out all positions if the entry had “marketing”, “marketer”, “advertising” and a few other terms.
I ended up with about ~3500 jobs.
The job titles in the entries weren’t uniform, so I built percentiles out of the data to understand the ranges (below). I guessed that fewer “growth and marketing leaders" filled out this survey compared to the Ruckus survey above, so it would have lower salary ranges.
But when looking at the total compensation for the 99th percentile in our crowdsourced data, we see $287k. I equate the 99th percentile to CMO, SVPs, and for that category, the Ruckus survey shows $280-300k. Pretty close 🤷
The data below says if you make $70k, you are in the 50% percentile of marketers.

If you’re interested in even more salary data, here is one from the #emailgeeks community from a few years back: 💰 Results-Email Geeks Salary Survey Results. This one has only about 500 responses, so it's much easier to look through.
