This is helpful, creative and enlightening. Thanks Jacob, I will be trying some of these features in my Arabic App. What do you think of this tactic: the more referral links a user sends to their friends the more discount they get?
I like it! I would start with a simple approach and then iterate. First test if people engage with the referral features, and if they don't, figure out how to drive that engagement before building out complicated mechanics.
If you see good traction with the referral discounting feature, then test out different setups with number links sent, discount amount, etc. But managing all of that can get super complicated quickly and you can spend a lot of time before you even know if it's a valuable tactic.
I think the Uptime approach is a good one to start testing with first, and then if that works, you can feel more confident investing time in building it out further.
Great post! Especially liked the Fabulous ex—they consistently have some of the most novel and interesting UX and feature mechanics imo. Though ironically I’ve never vibed with it as an actual app (in spite of being a habits junkie)

Thanks! And completely agree, they have very thoughtful product design, but it has become a bit convoluted lately.
